Beginning the internal decoration!

All the interior walls and ceilings have already had a couple of coats of an off white emulsion and I began decorating the living room first.
I decided on this period fireplace and set about making a chimney breast. I used foam board for this which I find easy to cut.

I’m having the chimney breast on this right hand wall but first I needed to lay the flooring so that I didn’t have to cut around the chimney breast once it was in situ…

I also painted an area around the hole where the fire would be inset

I made a template of the floor area and used real wood floorboard sheet, cutting each board individually and laying each one down onto the template.
I used a medium oak stain followed by a wax and polish to give a light sheen.

I remembered to leave a small gap between the floor and chimney breast to allow for the wire from the fire to run! I’ve forgotten to do this in the past much to my annoyance!

My next job was to add cornice and a pretty ceiling rose

I didn’t take photos of fitting the skirting and picture rail but here is how it all turned out!

So here we have the outside finished apart from glazing the windows complete with tape on them as they would have had in wartime.
The pavement is made using sandpaper.

Door furniture added!

And I’ve begun building the kitchen now…
This will be a small room box which will sit at the back of the house and line up with the doorway that I cut out in the hallway…more on this later!

Beginning the build

Here is the new Edwardian Terrace House Kit brand new in the box just waiting to be built!

A dry run first to see how it will all fit together. I always do this as it allows me to make any adjustments or changes which I nearly always do!

The small ‘room’ on the left on the first floor is going to be changed….the archway is going to be removed and a new wall and door added to make a small box room.

This photo shows the front elevation of the house which will eventually be hinged onto the main body of the house. I will decorate this and add the windows first.

All the small decorative building pieces being painted. I’ve used sample pots of masonary paint for this.

Doors and windows having a coat of paint

The exterior has been decorated using fibreglass brick sheets and I used a roller to paint all the internal walls and ceilings with an off white emulsion. The bay window has been built and glued onto the front. Getting all this done before assembly is so much easier!

The main body of the house is all glued together and the roof hinges screwed on…

I want to add a kitchen extension to the back of the house as there is only one room on the ground floor. I’ve begun by measuring out where I can put a doorway leading from the entrance hall

Here you can see where I’ve cut through from the back wall of the house and added a doorway which will lead into the new kitchen. I’ve also left out the arched wall in that front bedroom ready for the new wall and doorway in there.

So that is progress so far….!

This new blog features my wartime era dollshouse set sometime in the 1940s.

I chose the name 69 Victoria Road as this was my first home as a baby….

I began work on this property about three years ago but I’ve only just got around to making this blog for it to share my work.

Having saved lots of photos of my progress, it will just be a matter of simply uploading those (she says) and explaining what I have done thus far….so bear with me!
